Hi everyone, Happy Friday! It’s starting to get pretty chilly here in Dallas but I hear some of my friends up north have already seen SNOW. Whoa weather, winter is still at least a month down the road…

A few weeks ago I did something I’ve been wanting to do since I moved here about a year ago,  visited the Dallas Arboretum! It was named one of the Best Botanical Gardens in the nation by the Travel Channel, and I live within walking distance so I’m almost embarrassed that I hadn’t been there already. Fall was in full swing and I’ve never seen so many pumpkins in one place in my life. It was really gorgeous so I have to share the photos with everyone. For once, this post ISN’T about food!

A Gourd House!

A house made of gourds!

I'd hate to be the one to pick up all those rotting pumpkins at the end of the season...

A Cinderella pumpkin-- I didn't really know these existed.

If you have kids (or even if you dont’) you have to visit the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. It has over 150 interactive exhibits including a trail with an adventure bridge, canopy walk, a garden maze, plant and soil labs, and more. Of course my favorite part was the Incredible Edible Garden. It’s summarized best by the Arboretum’s site: “Everything that is alive must eat, but the choices we make about what we eat are the difference between being strong and healthy or being weak and ill. From ancient times to today, man has gotten food from plants. Did you have cereal at breakfast today? It came from a plant. Bananas and fruit juice come from plants. Bread is made from a plant. The vegetables on your plate and your chocolate dessert were grown for you to eat. Stroll through The Incredible Edible Garden and learn about the value plants provide to our health.” I didn’t take any pictures here so you’ll have to go check it out yourself. I even learned a lot from this exhibit!

If you’re visiting Dallas or live here and never been, put the Arboretum on your to-do list. When the weathers nice, I  hear they have some fun outdoor concerts which I’ll be checking out next year.

Now I’m off to Kansas, everyone have a great weekend!
