If you’re trying to conceive, initiating IVF, or managing conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), optimizing your diet can play a crucial role in boosting fertility. As a fertility dietitian in Orlando, I help women and couples improve their chances of a healthy pregnancy through personalized nutrition plans tailored to hormone balance, egg quality, and overall reproductive health.
How Diet Affects Fertility
What you eat influences your hormones, ovulation, and even the quality of eggs and sperm.
A fertility-friendly diet is balanced and anti-inflammatory. It focuses on:
- Healthy Fats such as avocados, olive oil, pasture-raised eggs, and nuts support hormone production.
- Lean Proteins like chicken, fish, beans, and lentils aid in cell development. You don’t have to eat meat to get enough protein, and you do not need to drink protein supplements that upset your stomach.
- Complex Carbs! Trust me, the right carbs are your fertility friend! Whole grains, sweet potatoes, fruit, old-fashioned oats and fiber-rich vegetables help regulate blood sugar and ovulation.
- Key Nutrients – Folate, omega-3s, magnesium, zinc, and antioxidants support reproductive health. You can get these from food, supplements, or a combination of both!
There are also foods you’ll want to limit, including:
- Alcohol
- Ultra-processed foods and snacks (think about food products that don’t resemble food you find in nature, such as Oreos or Cheetos).
- Excessive refined sugar intake
- Artificial colors, dyes, and sweeteners
- Excessive amounts of caffeine
When you work with me, I’ll help you create a personalized nutrition plan to optimize your diet for fertility!
Can A Fertility Dietitian Help with Weight Loss?

Yes. Weight loss can help with fertility if it’s due to hormonal imbalances such as insulin resistance, but it’s not guaranteed to help with unexplained infertility.
If weight loss is part of your fertility plan, I can help you lose weight in a sustainable way. Crash diets and rapid weight loss are not recommended for conceiving.
If you’re using a weight loss injection like Ozempic, please consult your doctor before trying to get pregnant. You will likely need to discontinue the injections for at least 2-3 months before conceiving.
